How it Affected it's Culture

It brought racial discrimination.
It took slave trade out of control and to a whole new level.
It INCREASED the European influence.
New languages such as English and Portuguese were introduced.
There was untold suffering among the people who worked for the White farmers in their own land.
It eroded the African culture and few tribes such as Masai have been able to keep theirs.
It brought about Religion the Germans wer Catholics, British Protestants.
It undermined the Islam religion.

POLITICAL REASONS

By creating political control, or sovereignty, over their colonies was the main goal or objective of the British in the early years of colonialism. The colonial powers used the advantages of warfare, threat of being able to force people and a treaty making with the Tribal leaders in their efforts to be able to gain political control of colonies. Once political control was realized and institutions of governance were in place, economics became the main concern of the colonial governments.

Econommic Reasons

Since the British told the Tribal leaders to start collecting taxes, they were able to rule the nation with no troubles or problems. They wanted the citizens of Sudan to be uneducated so they banned them from going to school. They also had many common reasons to start colonizations. They wanted raw materials like gold, spices from natural, human or capital uses. As you know, Europe did not have a lot of resources so they would travel to other places. In Sudan, they grew a lot of cotton so they were able to sell and buy cotton. Sadly, the economy corrupted because of two bare cotton harvests. They also trade and start market. Colonization mostly started because they wanted to be rich or earn money.Or they wanted to gain power and rule. They mostly wanted to teach the citizens about Christianity.

Political Reasons

In 1922, the British let the tribal leaders rule Sudan. But, they directed the tribal leaders to collect tax and having the responsibility of local administration. This made the British make sure that they would be able to dominate the nation with no difficulties.

SOCIAL REASONS CONT.

Soon, Europeans and Arab traders came to Sudan and established a slave- trade market. The slave market broke the tribes, colonies and families that lived in Sudan.

SOCIAL REASONS

Sudan’s culture has been impacted because of the British taking over and taking power. In the South of Sudan, they did not accept Islam and allowed Christian missionaries to come and teach the people Christianity. Not only did the British take over, the France took over, Bahr el Ghazal, and the Western Upper Nile up to Fashoda. In the 1800’s slavery was starting and turning into a business.
